When I knew I was writing November’s Blog – the beginning of the full UK lockdown V2.0, I thought, what will there to be to write about?  However – as we are glass half full kind of gals, I am reflecting on what we have been doing to keep our mental spirits up, whilst the relentless DeJa’Vu all over again of lockdown kicks in deeper.

  • Christmas Hamper Incentive
    • We have set ourselves a list of 10 goals to achieve prior to our (now cancelled) Christmas party, and we win goodies to go into our virtual hamper prior to December 11th
    • We have so far won a Molton Brown treat, a ‘fun’ exercise class, alcohol treat, White Company candle and a visit to a garden centre (with voucher)
    • To play for, are Christmas socks (and jumper and earrings there is a theme here), Lottery tickets and a Chocolate Orange
  • Elf Day – we have been doing it virtually rather than on one day. Our fundraising efforts for Alzheimer’s, our charity of choice this year, has/will involve:
    • Noodle fancy dress competition – the winner……. Noodolph
    • Sponsor an Elf Name
    • On the day – we can now walk outside (Maxing our Tier 3 benefits). So, we are dressing up as Elves and going for a walk with Noodolph (at a safe distance) and if not raining will eat a picnic lunch outdoors in the countryside (pictures will follow)

I also try and catch Jane out when her Teams’ freezes with the worst ‘frozen face’ impression for when it comes back online; Sienna continues to come in and brighten our day with her random screen appearance alongside Tracy, and Ninja comes and inappropriately cleans herself on camera behind me on a Teams meeting, to much mirth. 

As we deal predominantly with HR and Finance, we know only too well how these teams are feeling it.  They have been working so hard through this time, probably without the full recognition and understanding, that they have borne a lion’s share of dealing with keeping things going – so we salute you. You are doing an excellent job. We have so many drinks meetings pre-booked for when we come out the other side, I don’t think we will be able to work for a year (but sounds good…).

It is the small things that make it manageable, and I am glad to be surrounded by such positive people. When one of us gets down we all pick up and run with them until they get over the brick walls, we all sometimes hit. We chat with our clients and candidates to support them in a similar fashion, so we will keep staying positive and will come out the other side stronger together.
