Based across the Northwest, our client is an award-winning, large independent practice that is seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to become part of their payroll team in Lancashire. Working as part of a large payroll team, this firm can offer an exciting and varied role to an accomplished and experienced specialist.


Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will be fully responsible for processing the payroll for a variety of clients, principally owner-managed businesses and corporate subsidiaries. This is a fast-paced and challenging role where you will be processing a high volume of payroll runs for a variety of different businesses.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Processing a high volume of payroll data into Iris Payroll Professional software
  • Ensuring a high standard of processing whilst working efficiently to tight deadlines
  • Assisting in the processing and calculation of net pay, for each employee on a client’s payroll, using either computer software, or manually, applying the rules and tables supplied by the HMRC
  • Notifying clients of amounts due to HMRC and processing BACS payments
  • Producing month and year end payroll reports for clients
  • Assisting with the transmission to HMRC, via RTI (Real Time Information), forms P45, P46, FPS and EPS returns
  • Ensuring the timeliness of downloads from HMRC and pension providers regarding tax codes, Student Loan notices and opt out dates
  • Have an awareness of CIS, and have the ability to adapt to changes in legislation affecting payroll processing and PAYE in general
  • Assisting in the auto-enrolment process for clients, by understanding the legislation, creating reports via our payroll software, and liaising with pensions providers
  • Liaising with HM Revenue and Customs, DWP and other associated bodies


The successful applicant must have previous experience of working within a payroll bureau or in-house, having processed multiple payrolls. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential along with experience of using Word, Excel, and Outlook. Previous experience of using Iris Professional Payroll would be advantageous. A working knowledge of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, including the relevant calculation would also be useful.
