Senior Buyer – North Manchester – £30,000 - £38,000k

Based in North Manchester, our client is an established engineering firm that offers a great working environment. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and strategic Buyer to join and support a highly successful business to ensure that the highest standards of supply, cost and quality are maintained at all times. This job will be office based initially Mon-Fri however a hybrid mix of both home and office working will be considered for the right applicant after the completion of training.

THE JOB:

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Driving total cost reduction across the supply chain by focusing on identifying cost down opportunities
  • Identifying, sourcing, and finalising new worldwide suppliers
  • Managing and developing mutually beneficial existing supplier relationships
  • Working with suppliers to ensure KPI’s are achieved and maintained
  • Identifying, planning and implementing continuous improvement opportunities within the supply chain to achieve best practice
  • Managing and negotiating supplier contracts on an international basis
  • Using just in time principles to meet production demands 
  • Working cross functionally with all areas of the business, particularly engineering and production
  • Co-ordinating materials and activities with worldwide materials to achieve total lowest cost for the business
  • Driving the application and development of purchasing functional excellence

THE PERSON

The ideal candidate will be CIPS qualified, or part qualified however candidates with substantial experience will still be considered. This role will suit a highly experienced Buyer that has previously managed a global supply base. As Senior Buyer you will be fully responsible for finalising and closing negotiations therefore previous experience at this level is essential. Within this role you will be expected to travel globally on a regular basis, therefore, you must be available to do so and sometimes with little notice. Previous experience of working in a manufacturing or engineering business would be preferred and the ability to read technical drawings is required. You will be expected to manage multiple projects through to successful completion therefore you must be a robust character that is highly organised and has the ability to confidently problem solve. You will need to be reactive to change and have a flexible approach to all that you do.
